Prince Harry and Meghan’s New Sundance Documentary Is Surprisingly Personal to Meghan
Prince Harry and Meghan are stepping behind the camera once again, and this time, the project comes with a nostalgic, feel-good twist.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have signed on as executive producers of Cookie Queens, a new documentary heading to the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. Produced through their company, Archewell Productions, the film shines a spotlight on Girl Scouts during the high-energy, high-pressure world of cookie season.
While the subject might sound charmingly familiar, Cookie Queens promises a much deeper look at what’s really going on behind the cookie tables.
Why This Project Matters to Meghan
For Meghan, this documentary is more than just another production credit, it’s personal. Long before royal life, she was a Girl Scout herself, with her mother, Doria Ragland, serving as her troop leader.

That connection is part of what drew Meghan and Harry to the project in the first place. After watching early footage, Meghan said the film immediately stood out to them.

She praised its creative approach and emotional honesty, describing the directing as “edgy yet humanizing,” and said the behind-the-scenes look at Girl Scout Cookie season was “absolutely irresistible.”
What Cookie Queens Is Really About
Directed by Alysa Nahmias, Cookie Queens follows a group of Girl Scouts between the ages of five and twelve as they navigate cookie season alongside their families. While the annual tradition is often seen as lighthearted and fun, the documentary reveals the real pressure beneath the smiles.
Selling cookies becomes an early lesson in ambition, confidence, and entrepreneurship, complete with long hours, big goals, and the emotional ups and downs of wanting to succeed. Told largely from the girls’ perspectives, the film captures a coming-of-age experience that feels both nostalgic and surprisingly modern.
Headed to Sundance in 2026
The documentary will premiere in Sundance’s Family Matinee section, a special showcase for films designed to resonate with audiences of all ages. The festival will run from January 23 to February 2, 2026, in Park City, Utah, though an exact premiere date for Cookie Queens has not yet been announced.
There’s also no word yet on whether Harry and Meghan plan to attend the festival, but their involvement alone is already generating buzz.
A Busy Time for the Sussexes
Cookie Queens is the latest addition to an increasingly busy creative slate for the couple. Earlier this year, Netflix confirmed a new multi-year “first look” deal with Prince Harry and Meghan, continuing their partnership with Archewell Productions.
Recent releases include the holiday edition of Meghan’s lifestyle series With Love, Meghan and Masaka Kids: A Rhythm Within, a documentary about the Ugandan children’s dance group whose viral videos made them global stars. The couple is also reportedly developing a film adaptation of Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel Meet Me at the Lake.
A Sweet Story With Real Heart
While Cookie Queens may centre on a beloved childhood tradition, it fits squarely into the kind of storytelling Harry and Meghan have consistently supported projects that highlight growth, empathy, and real human experiences.
In this case, the story just happens to involve Thin Mints, big dreams, and a group of girls learning early what it means to believe in themselves.
